Hence through a deeper understanding of the novel and the viewpoint in which Golding wrote the novel, allowed me to better understand on the theme of ‘The darkness in human nature’ and what Golding wished to convey to the readers through the book. As compared to my previous views of the evil that lurked in human hearts, the novel allowed me to appreciate and be more receptive towards the idea of the evil that lurks in each and every one of us. As compared previously, the broad spectrum of which evil is evident in us can be experienced first hand and even demonstrated by almost every action in our daily lives. Through the many different scenes in the book and compared to the media that we are exposed to, the book allows me to better understand and comprehend that news and how the theme of ‘Darkness in human nature’ is not only something that happens in Lord of the flies but also something that is all around us. And that each and every one of us has the capacity and the will to do great evil, and the society we are living in nw serving as that line of separation.
