After deeper study into the novel, I realised that human’s nature is definitely evil and has manifested itself in the hearts of everyone, even the young boys that are seen in this book. Through the close reading and a deeper understanding of the whole novel, I started to realise that Golding’s description of the boys was in fact a real and down to earth representation of what boys were like at such a young age. The book also brought about many insights towards what the concept of human nature being evil means. The intricately crafted personalities of the boys reflected how there would always be evil in the deepest part of our hearts which are usually shielded from others. This particular aspect of the evil being hidden in our hearts is seen in the way that Ralph played a part in the killing of Simon despite being generally playing the more morally upright role in the book. The only prominent character in the book that displays totally upright, with no evil characteristics is Simon, hence proving how the human nature has an evil nature. This also relates closely to real life where bullying is seen to take place, hence a vivd example of the evil manifesting itself in reality.
Furthermore, I also picked up the theme of exclusion and bullying that is exhibited in this novel. This is observed in the ways that the boys exclude and bully Piggy just because he is unfit and different from them. This indeed takes place around me as there are bullying cases in schools and they are common. Therefore, this makes the whole bullying incident one that is close to the heart as i have witnessed and even experienced it before. The most common form of bullying by exclusion and calling of names is seen in the book, which makes the book very relatable to. Furthermore, there is also no respect shown towards Piggy from Jack, showing how badly Piggy was bullied that Jack did not even respect him. Therefore, bullying establishes itself as one of the major themes in this book.
