The spectacles is a symbol of knowledge, foresight and wisdom. In the novel, the only person who wears spectacles is Piggy. Unlike other boys, Piggy is more mature and has foresight. When Ralph said that his father is going to rescue the boys, Piggy thinks otherwise. Piggy can foresee that the boys are stranded on the island and that they may not be rescued as everyone was already dead. In fact, Piggy also plays an important role in the book by constantly guiding and rationalizing Ralph's statement since he is more self-aware than Ralph. The spectacles was also used to set up the fire which was important for the rescue of the boys, since it was the signal to ships that were passing by. The spectacles also represent knowledge as Piggy was more knowledgeable as compared to many of the boys that were there. Therefore, the spectacles represents wisdom, foresight and knowledge.
